A Utah Concealed Firearm Permit saves you $7.50 every time you purchase a firearm as a Utah resident in Utah.
This is because all permit holders have an automatic background check run on them every morning.
All the dealer has to do is call BCI and give them the permit number.
If there were no problems on your morning background check, they are given a code number to put on the 4473 form, and you are done.
My class costs $30 and includes your photo. Your fingerprints cost about $15. The permit application fee paid to BCI is $60.00.
That's $105.00 for your initial 5-year permit.
That's 14 background checks.
Buy 14 guns in that first 5 years and you have completely recouped your investment - not counting the value of having the permit, of course.
Renewals are $15, plus a photo which is about $15.
That's $30 for your second and subsequent 5-year permits.
That's 4 background checks every 5 years.
If you buy enough guns, you can recoup that investment.
You can start to effectively make money if you buy more guns!
In Utah with a Concealed Firearm Permit, you can carry a Concealed Firearm in a bar, pub, or eatery that serves alcohol.
Just don't carry and get drunk.
If you hit a BAC of 0.08, you are breaking the law at that point (same BAC as DUII).
In Utah with a Concealed Firearm Permit, you can carry in public schools.
In Utah, "NO GUNS ALLOWED" signs do NOT carry the weight of law that a Texas 30.06 sign does.
HOWEVER, if someone notices that you are carrying and asks you to leave, do so immediately.
If you don't, it would be trespassing.
Personally, I obey those signs - but I see them as a "we don't serve YOUR KIND here" sign.
I don't go where people post those signs or notices. I spend my money and time elsewhere.
They are also a waste of money on the part of those that put them up.
Trolley Square has had those signs for years. Click here to see one.
Look up the name Sulejman Talovic' and Trolley Square.
What good did those signs do?
In Utah with a Concealed Firearm Permit, you can NOT carry in secure or Federally Prohibited buildings such as...
Post Offices
Social Security Offices
Federal Buildings
Courthouses
Secure Areas of Airports (can't go through the TSA screening, but can be on this side with a firearm)
In Utah with a Concealed Firearm Permit - it is no longer REQUIRED that you identify yourself as a CFP holder to a police officer during a traffic stop or other contact.
I still STRONGLY encourage you to CAREFULLY do so at your earliest opportunity.
Carry your permit and your DL in a holder designed for two pieces of photo ID.
State "Officer, as you can see I have a Utah Concealed Firearm Permit. I am/am not carrying a firearm, and it is located X".
That tells them that you are a law abiding citizen and gives them the important information in the order in which they can best process it.
DO NOT SAY "Officer, I have a gun and....."
You may not get to finish the sentence.
In Utah, Churches can notify BCI that they wish to prohibit firearms.
BCI posts the notices on their website.
If you carry in one of these churches that has posted a notice - without the permission of someone in authority to grant such permission - it is an infraction.
Meaning that is carries the weight of a traffic ticket and you can be cited.
Originally, three churches posted notices after that law went into effect.
Now, only one has posted such a notice on the BCI website.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints prohibits firearms in all "Places of Worship".
This covers their meetinghouses, Temples, etc.
They are also the ones that were driven out of their homes and churches and Temples in Missouri and elsewhere at gunpoint.
But that's ok, nothing bad ever happens in churches any more.

especially not at LDS Churches in Utah itself

This article states that members in the Church building were told there was a shooting outside, then they said a prayer, and then were dismissed.
All they could do was pray after the fact.
None of them would have been legally armed to help, even if they could have helped.
It might not have made a difference, but maybe...
Because of that policy, we will never know.
